Welcome to Queer Fudanshi. Let’s Talk. In this post we’ll be talking about Entangled with You Episodes 1-2.
Entangled with You is an American Dramedy Web Series. The official premise found on the Entangled with You web site goes:
After suffering breakups, a stoic lesbian moves in with a perky straight woman. With nothing in common beyond mutual heartache, the two form an unlikely bond as conflicts with their significant others force them closer.
Created by Caryn K. Hayes, Entangled is a relationship dramedy following roommates Alisha (Kathryn J. Taylor) and Jaliyah (Loren Lillian), who move in together after separating from their partners. Emotional and perky, Alisha takes a reluctant Jaliyah on her up-and-down grief tour, while the stoic and cool Jaliyah deals with her own loss.
Only… Alisha’s on-and-off-again boyfriend, Craig (Al Thompson) and Rocky (Jessica Meza), Jaliyah’s girlfriend, never leave the picture. Failing to fully disconnect from their relationships leaves the roomies in a constant back and forth with their emotions and the pair form an unlikely bond as their lives begin to intersect in unexpected ways.
My Thoughts Before Watching
So guys, I’m excited to talk about this series for many reasons. First, Queer Fudanshi is a blog that tries to share LGBTQ media and not just BL media. While as a gay man and as a fudanshi I do have a bias toward gay media and BL media, I want to make sure that there’s representation for Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans, and any other type of Queer people.
In addition, I try to represent people of different backgrounds and races. I’ve shared ALOT of media with asian and white people, but only a few with latino people and only one that focuses on black people. Add on to that the facts that I was kind of unsure about continuing to review About Him because of its sexual content (something I’ve since gotten over), and the fact that I’m black myself! Now, you’ll see why it’s high time I shared a story like Entangled with You.
As for my thoughts on this actual property. Honestly, before watching I know next to nothing about this web series. I just looked up, “What’s a popular lesbian web series (besides Carmilla)” and found Entangled with You. Let’s see what we think!
This is Entangled with You Episodes 1-2.
Where to Watch:
The Talk (Spoilers Ahead):
Episode 1: “Just Say It”
This is a fun and relatable show with a lot squished into an episode. I paused the video at 7:26 to make sure I spelled gonorrhea right (yeah), and I was amazed that I was only halfway through the episode. In addition to packing a lot in, this episode was good for showing us the basics of the main characters. The broad strokes are shared and then hopefully in following episodes we can get a more in-depth feel for them.
Out of the two main characters, I connect more with Jaliyah. She’s a writer, she seems more casual in nature, plus she’s the gay one. Plus, I loved the club scene. the conversation between Jaliyah and her friend was so real and so reflective of the way that I talk to my friends. As for Alisha, I feel like her personality is too conservative yet emotional for me to instantly connect with. That said, her plight of her boyfriend giving her gonorrhea (yikes) is just as compelling as Jaliyah’s story.
Also, I love the dancing scene during the credits. It reminds me of ’90s and early 2000s shows like Moesha, Sister, Sister, A Different World, and In Living Color.
Also also, I’ve got to complain about the constant static noise at least once. That said, I’m not gonna complain too much about it, because of my experience trying to make audio work in the QF Gaming videos. Audio is hard guys.
Episode 2: “Moving Out, Moving In, Moving On?”
I feel like this episode upped the comedy to a hundred, because I was laughing hard multiple times. For instance, I loved the Alisha and Craig’s fight. Not only was the situation interesting, but that scene was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS.
There were so many funny and well delivered lines (skip this paragraph if you don’t want the jokes spoiled) like “These are my period panties,” “Low like your credit score,” “I’ll have you know a brother is up to 423 now,” “Thank you Mr. Homeless Man.” Everything about that scene was funny. I’ve got to give it a huge round of applause for the actors and writer.
Conversely, as much as I loved Jaliyah and Rocky’s situation in the last episode, I didn’t enjoy them in this one. It seems the roles have reversed from the last episode, because that’s how I felt about Alisha and Craig until now. Go figure.
I’m in. I’m definitely down for watching the rest of this series and all of its seasons. I hope that every episode is as entertaining as I found these two episodes.
My rating for Entangled with You Episodes 1-2 is 4 stars out of 5. What’s Yours?
