Coliver Censorship? UK’s First Trans Reporter? // Weekly Update

Welcome to Queer Fudanshi! Let’s Talk. Today is Friday, and that means it’s time for the Weekly Update. Specifically, we’re going to talk about a Coliver censorship scandal, British tv’s first transgender reporter, and more.

If you don’t know, Queer Fudanshi has a weekly segment that shares LGBT media news. The Weekly Update keeps readers in the know about upcoming kickstarters with LGBT themes/characters. In addition, I share news of casting announcements from Hollywood concerning Queer people. I also tell you guys about releases for video games, foreign films, and more. This is all to keep you up-to-date concerning LGBT media news.

So Let’s Get Talking

As always, if you prefer to get your news in video, make sure to head over to the QF Youtube Channel.

  1. Coliver Censorship in the Philippines?

The Philippine Sony channel got in a lot of heat this past week with a Coliver censorship scandal. The second episode in How to Get Away with Murder‘s third season ended up getting censored on the channel. The episode contained a kiss between the show’s gay characters Connor and Oliver. When this happened fans raised a storm on twitter over the Coliver censorship, and got the attention of the two actors playing the gay couple.

All this twitter heat eventually got to the channel and it’s been announced that a special rerun will play showing the cut out kiss.

  1. Carmilla is Becoming a Movie?

A recent teaser trailer was released showing that there is an upcoming Carmilla movie. The movie will come out in Fall 2017. The film will follow Laura and Carmilla five years after their exploits in season three. In addition, it has been announced the series will have even more spin-offs and extensions such as a stage show and a tv series.

This is more of an Eco Blast-esque news story. I just discovered and I kinda love it. The web sites is basically a Gay Netflix. It even boasts that it has more gay films and tv shows than the other popular streaming site. In addition, the channel is starting to make it’s own content such as the recent Feral series.

I checked out Dekkoo and it seems pretty packed. I’m sad to see that it doesn’t contain any lesbian content, but I understand that its focus is on gay men. That said, there are some media focused on bisexual and transgender characters (though, not much).

I would love to check out the site and it seems to have a 14 day free trial, so I just might. In addition, once that trial is over you can subscribe to the website for $9.99 a month. So, go check it out and see if it’s worth subscribing to. (Btw, this is not a sponsored report. I really did just randomly found this website and thought I would share).

  1. British TV Has First Trans Reporter

UK Tv, and specifically ITV News Tyne Tees, has gained its first trans reporter in  India Willoughby. Recently, Jonathan Willoughby underwent a £14,000 gender reassignment operation and came out as the India that she always identified as.

Willoughby explained to Mirror:

“One of the reasons I decided to stand up and be counted as trans was because of all the mis-information out there… Historically it has been branded as anything from a perversion to a joke, rather than something that is biological… There is so much rubbish talked about the subject even now. By telling my story I hope that I can help break down any ill-conceived pre-conceptions.”

  1. Quick Kickstarter Updates

    1. My Gay Roommate Reloaded has only 1 more week left before its kickstarter ends and it still needs nearly half the funding inorder to be successful. If you haven’t backed it already, consider doing so today.
    2. The Legend of Rune has been successfully funded with $20,000 more money than it asked for. In addition, the game will continue its funding campaign through paypal until December 3rd, so if you haven’t backed it yet or want to raise your pledge rewards you can do so.
    3. Seiyuu Danshi is currently having open voting for the voice actors to play the main romance options. Feel free to click the link to add your vote in.

That is it for this Weekly Update. Let me know down in the comments below what you think of this week’s stories and let’s get talking!
